This heavy equipment payment calculator, from Redrun Business Funding, a small-business funding broker in Caldwell, Idaho, estimates the monthly payment and the total cost including the down payment for an excavator, skid steer or loader, from the price, down payment, rate and term you enter. The rate is your assumption; partners set real terms.
What to enter
- Price: the machine's price from the dealer or seller, including attachments you are buying with it.
- Down payment: the cash you will put in, or the value of a trade-in agreed with the dealer.
- Rate: an annual interest rate you want to test. It is your assumption, not an offer.
- Term: the number of months you expect to pay.
The calculator returns two figures: the estimated monthly payment, and the total cost of the machine, which adds the down payment to all the payments.
A pencil check on a loader quote
With a rate of zero, the arithmetic is simple. Hypothetical example, for illustration only: a used compact track loader priced at $60,000, with $10,000 down, financed over 50 months. The financed amount is $50,000, so the payment is $50,000 divided by 50, or $1,000 a month. The total cost is $10,000 down plus 50 payments of $1,000, which is $60,000.
Any rate above zero adds interest on the balance each month, so the payment and the total cost both rise. Try a few rates and terms to see how much each one changes the total.
What the payment estimate ignores
- Fees for documentation or origination in the partner's agreement.
- Sales tax, delivery and setup, unless you include them in the price.
- Insurance, which partners usually require on financed equipment.
- Maintenance, repairs and fuel.
Lease structures, balloon payments and buyouts at the end of a lease are not modelled. For those, read the lease terms or ask Redrun to walk through them.
Choosing a rate to test
Use a range rather than one number. Test the payment at a few different rates and terms, and check whether the business could still carry it in a month when jobs run late. That tells you more than any single estimate.
Taking the estimate to a partner
Bring the dealer quote, the machine's year and hours if used, and the payment range you tested. Redrun can then explain which structures fit and what a partner will want to see. The partner sets the actual rate and term, which may differ from what you entered.
